You have no idea how much I want to talk about basketball instead of penises. (Or maybe you do.)
Before the season, tonight’s game was circled on all the calendars. Both teams have lived up to their part of the early-season bargain, making this a scintillating matchup of top-ten teams. This is going to be [...]

I think that was the most impressive win so far this year. Or maybe I am just biased since it is the newest. But honestly. This game should scare our future opponents.
First, it was on the road. I don’t care how many SU fans made the trip, playing the University of Florida in the [...]

So I pop over to My Yahoo to check my fantasy football team and behold the content that has arrived:
Halleluia and Hail Boeheim! The basketball schedule is complete! To quote a wise philosopher, “Let’s get it started in here.”
The full schedule can be found here. The highlights:
Coaches vs. Cancer in MSG on Nov 19/20. We [...]

It’s anticlimactic, there’s no glamor involved, the opponent is neither interesting nor familiar, and no ones going to storm the court. But in reality, if we beat Cincinnati tomorrow, we will seal our invitation to the NCAA Tournament.
There comes a time in each NCAA-worthy season when a team truly becomes a “lock”. People have referred [...]

We need this one tonight. If only for our own mental health.
Memphis is ranked 15th and 14th in the polls. Kansas is ranked 24th and 21st, and 7-0 in the Big 12. Florida is 19-4, leading the SEC East and knocking on the door of the rankings. So why are we spiraling out of control [...]

One more thing jumped out at me from the box scores of the past three kick-ass wins for Syracuse. It’s a pattern of two, so nothing from the Kansas game this time. There are two stat lines that I’m in love with from the last week.
Against Florida:
Flynn: 5-7 shooting, 18 points.
Against Virginia:
Devendorf: 3-3 shooting, 14 [...]

Free throws are turning into a major strength for the 2008-2009 Syracuse Orange.
Seriously, hear me out.
I realize that as a team we’re shooting a mediocre 66%, but there’s more to free throw shooting than your success rate once you get there. There’s also the rate that you get to the line to begin with. Check [...]

Tomorrow I’ll whip together a more coherent and helpful analysis of the amazing events in Kansas City tonight (and yesterday), but it’s 1 AM on the east coast and I need to crash. However, I’d be remiss in going to sleep before announcing this fact — officially — to the world:
The Syracuse University basketball team [...]

That’s the best word I can think of to describe last night’s win over Florida. Which is weird, because in a lot of ways it wasn’t that solid. 16 turnovers, including at least two where we threw the ball directly to a Florida player and one other where Rautins was so worried about being called [...]
