Anybody else notice the nugget of a shot fired across the bow of Daryl Gross at the end of this Mike Waters’ blog entry that otherwise focuses on Cosmo’s Pizza? Carmelo was asked if he had his Olympic medal to show off this weekend in Syracuse, and he explained exactly the circumstances that he would require to consider the moment important enough to sport the Gold. The title of this blog post should clue you in.
Huh.
Personally, I’m torn about the Carmelo jersey retirement issue. Both sides have very valid points, which I’m too lazy to rehash here, but which tend to revolve around “He only played one season and never graduated!” vs. “Ahem, National Championship.” [When it's broken down like that, I side with Melo.] But at any rate, lets hope it doesn’t turn into a situation where Carmelo starts actively lobbying. That would be unseemly and awkward. I’m sure this quote from Waters’ blog was just an off the cuff remark from Melo that we shouldn’t read into. But it caught my eye nonetheless.

Melo wasn’t campaigning, he was spilling the beans:
