Fans of the Syracuse University field hockey team have been getting their money’s worth, as the team’s last four games have all gone into overtime. The Orange went 3-1 in these games, defeating #9 Old Dominion and #7 Michigan State this past weekend, and beating #18 Ohio State while losing to #7 Princeton over the previous weekend. With the graduation of All-Universe star Shannon Taylor, the Orange attack this year has been led by junior Lindsey Conrad (5 goals) and freshman Amy Kee (6 assists), with key support from juniors Maggie Befort (she of last season’s Big East Tournament-winning goal) and Shelby Schrader.
The team sits at 5-1 and is currently ranked #7, having swapped positions with Michigan State after squeaking past them on Sunday. The Orange travel to Kentucky this weekend to open Big East play against #16 Louisville, with whom SU shared the regular-season Big East crown last year, and to play a neutral-site game against Michigan.
Oh yeah. Football is looking decent so far, though they don’t have the end results to show for it. Saturday will be the best indicator of where this season could go: if they can put it all together and beat Northwestern, you have to think they have a fighting chance in a number of the Big East games.
