With all the malarkey that has been going on regarding Syracuse’s visit to DC in February, and how Georgetown is refusing to sell individual-game tickets unless you are a Hoya Athletics donor, I thought this needed to be shared. Tonight’s Georgetown game against #5 Pittsburgh is not sold out. In fact, it is far from sold out. I received this in an email yesterday afternoon:
Keep in mind that this was mailed out yesterday, about 26 hours before this game tips off. Being the curious fellow I am, I headed over just now to Ticketmaster and did a search. The lower deck is full - or at least not available for sale through TM - but I was able to find open seats in the third row of the upper deck, dead-center court. Which means that the upper bowl is probably pretty empty right now. (By the way, there are tickets to this game on sale for $9 on StubHub.)
You know, the defense I kept hearing from Hoyas about their policy for the SU game was “It’s going to sell out anyway, we might as well sell it out with Georgetown fans.” Granted, that game is a weekend, and it’s senior night, and it’s Syracuse. So maybe it really will sell out with Georgetown fans. But how confident can you possibly be about that? After all, the #5 team in the nation, another long-time Big East rival, is coming to your house and you still have really good seats available less than 7 hours before gametime. That’s sad.
