Welcome, Orange travelers, to Washington, DC

I’m about to do something I don’t usually do: use this forum for a bit of shameless self-promotion. Despite the Hoya Athletics Department’s best efforts, there are going to be quite a few SU fans descending on DC this weekend for Saturday afternoon’s game. And as you might expect, there are some official parties going on. Hoya Suxa has already capably informed you of the Friday evening throwdown at Sign of the Whale, and there is the usual pre-game at Clyde’s next door to the Verizon Center on Saturday morning. But there are two other events that you ought to be prepared to attend.

When I am not researching the intricacies of the Jordanian Basketball League, I am a guitar player in two DC-area bands, both of which have shows this weekend. Friday night, the Justin Trawick Group will be at Iota Club and Cafe in Arlington, VA. The timing works out perfectly for those of you going to Sign Of The Whale. Their open bar ends at 10pm; we go on around 10:30 or 11. Iota is a 10-minute drive from SOTW, or you can walk three blocks to the Metro’s Orange Line (of course) and ride that to the Clarendon stop, which is one block from the venue. Then on Saturday night, to cap off your afternoon of celebrating (or drowning your sorrows), Ten Feet Tall is performing at Whitlow’s on Wilson, also in Arlington — in fact, two doors down the street from Iota. That show also starts at 10pm. Both shows have Facebook Events created here (JTG Friday) and here (TFT Saturday) if you are into that sort of thing.

Justin Trawick Group is a mixture of roots rock and hip-hop grooves, while Ten Feet Tall is a soul and blues funksplosion. Either way you are guaranteed to have a great time shaking your Bernie Fine. So if you are looking for some live entertainment this weekend, please consider coming out to one or both of these shows. And if you do come, definitely find me between sets and introduce yourself so that I have someone to talk 2-3 zone with.

Now back to your regularly scheduled terrible photoshopping:
