Regular readers of this space know that we are avid followers of Syracuse field hockey. We began to take note of their exploits during the dark time that was the Greg Robinson Era, as we searched for some positive SU sports news during the fall athletic season. The Orange field hockey team has been a top-ten program nationally for the past several years, and are the two-time defending Big East champions. This year, having cemented their grip on the conference title, and with a stacked roster coming back in the fall, they are looking to take the next step and contend for the national crown. In order to help prepare them for that goal, they are traveling to Argentina during spring break next week to get some experience against elite international competition. The Argentine national team won the most recent World Cup in field hockey, and is a perennial power in the sport. Competing in an environment like this, the Syracuse team will undoubtedly raise their game.
This is where you come in. The team needs help defraying their travel expenses. They are trying to raise around $10,000 — in other words, about 35 cents from each person who came to Dome for the DePaul game on Saturday. Here’s a copy of a letter sent out to supporters and posted on their Facebook page:

I have seen the SU blog community come together for good causes before, hopefully we can do so again and help the girls have a great trip, and maybe get them ready for a historic season. Think of it this way: since the basketball team earned a double-bye, that’s one less BET session ticket you have to purchase. Why not designate that money for an Orange cause?
